Jessica Brown -A Shining Example We Should All Follow
AL, United States
When I think of Jessica Brown, I immediately think of her servant’s heart. Mrs. Brown is an amazing young lady with spunk, tenacity, and amazing organizational skills. Her love for her community and beyond is shown every day by her giving of time, energy and money. Jessica works tirelessly for the Council on Aging as a board member. She has helped organize their fundraiser each year for the past 5 years. Their organization through Jessica and their board’s efforts raised over $9,000 in 2018. Most of Jessica’s volunteer hours are currently spent with a program called Worlds of Work (WOW). For 4 years, Mrs. Brown has worked as a WOW Planning Committee member and Volunteer Recruitment Co-Chair. WOW, a hands-on career fair for 8th and 11th-grade students in Etowah and Calhoun Counties, hosts over 8,000 children over a 3-day event. This year, Mrs. Brown recruited over 180 volunteers to help with the students. The United Way of Etowah County (UWOEC) Day of Action event is one of her most outstanding accomplishments. She has organized the DOA program for UWOEC since 2008, growing the volunteers from 120 to now over 700 volunteers performing over 500 Etowah County community and agency projects. Some past projects include painting a Girl Scout meeting room, cleaning a child advocacy agency, and performing yardwork for a local teen shelter. Mrs. Brown has been instrumental as a volunteer, decorator and attendee with the Success by Six UWOEC program for their fundraising efforts to fund the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL) program for children birth to 5-years old. Their signature fundraising event, Girlfriend Gala raises over $65,000 each year to help pay for DPIL books the children in Etowah County, AL receive each month. Women from across Etowah County decorate tables and have a girl’s night out dinner. The Gadsden/Etowah County Chamber of Commerce is honored to have Jessica’s attention with several of their programs. As a Chamber Ambassador, she was honored with Ambassador of the Year in 2012. Jessica serves on the Leadership Etowah planning committee and is chair of the Student Leadership program. Graduating from Jacksonville State University with a BS in Public Relations, Jessica has given back to her alma matter. She is a member of the Communications Advisory Board at JSU and is a past alum of the JSU Marching Southerners, where she is an annual contributor and attendee of their shows. As a young professional, Jessica has been very involved with HYPE – How Young People Engage, and the League of Southeastern Credit Union’s Young Leaders Society which she has recently been elected as President. Mrs. Brown has also served as President for the Gadsden Service Guild, an organization promoting volunteerism and improving the Etowah County community. As you can see, Mrs. Jessica Brown has become a pillar in our community for giving back. I am proud to nominate her for the Show Your Love Volunteer Contest where she will represent all that serving others is meant to be.
